**The Mirror** is a nexus for the supernatural. To those who are ignorant of it, its effects are mere folklore. To those who are aware, it is the machinations of reality itself. It is easiest to think of it as a compact of pocket dimensions, with each dimension affected by material reality and in turn affects it. For example, [[scrape|the Scrape]] is defined by the tragedies of war and associated suffering. Its creatures are an embodiment of exaggerated war or torture, and its locations inspire exquisite suffering of the flesh. It is shaped by the galaxy's past, and its influence is determined by the laws it has internally created.

For the bold, however, the Mirror offers an enticing prospect. It is a reality in which [[the adversary|The Adversary]] cannot tread. And if one plays their cards right, they may learn the ways of the occult. A practice in which one gains kinship with mirrored surfaces, as well as the Shards within. To many who are aware of the Mirror's effects on reality, there are novel and strange possibilities to combat the apocalypse.

====== Shards ======
Individual dimensions within the Mirror itself. Typically, a person does not interact with the totality of the Mirror, and instead visit, or are visited by, agents of a given Shard. These pocket dimensions are living creatures in their own right, complete with a thriving ecosystem of Dwellers that do not obey the laws of material reality. Shards are beings of an unintelligible order, who act and plan in ways too long-term for many societies to properly study. Instead, they have to be observed through the behaviors of their environs and Dwellers.
